Noteflight

Noteflight is a useful tool for any music educator.  If a teacher or student has access to the internet, she can use this notation program.  I could foresee Noteflight being very useful the classroom.  This program could be utilized for individual student compositions, or group compositions in which each student adds a predetermined number of composed measures to a piece.

Despite these benefits, Noteflight was not the most user-friendly program.  It does not seem as intuitive as other notation programs, such as MuseScore for several reasons.  For example, to delete a measure in most notation programs one simply needs to select the measure and then select the delete option. In the MuseScore, this can be found under the “edit” menu.  Noteflight, however, seemed to be more complicated.  To delete a measure, I had to find a very small minus sign above the measure, unlike many notation programs I have used before.  In addition, I found it difficult to scroll through and view my composition without the tool bar constantly blocking the view.  This became irritating when I was trying to correct my music quickly after listening to playbacks.

All in all, Noteflight is definitely a useful program, but not one of my favorites.  I am glad that I took the time to learn Noteflight for educational reasons, but I don’t see myself using it for personal compositions or arrangements.  Attached is my copy of Bicycle Built for Two done using the Noteflight program:
